Can you convert a DVD to a CD-ROM?

I have a game called zork grand inquisitor, but it's a DVD format, and my new computer doesn't support DVD-ROMs. Is there a way I could convert the DVD into a CD-ROM? And if I can, can I do it at school? The school computers have DVD rom drives, so I could take the original disc to school, convert it, and burn it to another CD. (Hopefully it's less than 700 MB, that's as big as the disc supports.)

When I put the game in the drive, it doesn't even show up in MY COMPUTER...

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

what kind of computer do you have? If it is a desktop i would recommend purchasing a DVD drive for you computer. you can find them online at newegg.com for less than $40. Also you could convert it to an iso and put it on a 8 gig flash drive because it is probably bigger than 4 gigs. then copy it to your hard drive and use a virtual DVD rom drive. you can download a free one from http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html

It's kinda hard. If it's on DVD-ROM it's for a reason: it doens't fit on 1 CD.

You can compress all the DVD and split it in 4 or more parts (with WinRar or another compression software). Then you bring the CD's to home, decompress everything and see if the game works. Or you can decompress the DVD image file and use it as a virtual DVD drive with Daemon Tools.

you can but it will take some effort and 2 programs...

one is poweriso

www.poweriso.com

convert dvd to iso format...

then you need winrar

www.rarlab.com

take the iso file once created and convert it to 700mb rar files...

depending on your dvd game size its may take a few cd's to do so...

then pop in cds drop the rar files into a folder on your computer , then extract the files>then extract the iso using poweriso...install from the virtual image you just made...

or you can use poweriso and put it on an external drive then plug that back into your home machine and mount the virtual image of the iso using poweriso again -=)

good luck
