lmao i have a corsair K95 keyboard, actually just got mine a few days ago ^^
Its a pretty awesome keyboard, but its also my first mechanical and first "gaming" type keyboard, so my opinion my be bias :P
As for reds switches. Red and black are made for "gaming"
http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide you can read up on them here.
The browns are like a "middle ground" between blues and reds. Reds require VERY little force to actuate. Meaning to get as key to press it requires VERY VERY little energy to press down. Thus makes spamming a button VERY fast. Its useful for some situations in gaming. (like jumping to climb over something in an fps game, i can spam the space bar to climb up things very quickly. and in mmorpgs its pretty nice for skill spamming or spamming pick up or something)
So it will be very different from what you are used to, since the browns have a "click" (tactile feedback) when you click them, which helps with typing things. But it makes double clicking or spamming harder.
So it will probably be uncomfortable/weird for you if you are really used to browns or blues.
I like it, but i notice myself making more typos then rubber domes, but it could just be to the "newness" of mechanical kbs to me. Since i sometimes bump other keys when pressing another one, and on normal kbs it wouldnt pick that up as much. But now with such little actuation force, the tiniest bump of a key will actuate it.
Im sure ill get used to it over time and probably type better. But it does have a nice feeling to it compared to rubber domes still. less pressure on fingers, so less of a "cramping" feeling.
Def get K95 over K90, since K90 isnt full mechanical, i believe the G keys, F# keys, and home and etc keys are rubber domes. K95 100% mechanical.
K95 also has some novelty lighting features, like key buy key lighting, which you can turn on/off ANY key light by itself, so you can choose which keys light up. You can also have it light up each time you press a key while typing. So if you typed "hello" h would light up for a second then go out, then e, l , l, o after you type them then go out.
I really dont see huow either feature can be that useful tho. Since back lighting in general is basically useless since your monitor lights up more then leds ever could lol
But i bought it for being mechanical, with 18 G keys, and 3 sets for each one (m1/2/3 at the top switching the set of 18 for another set of 18) making 54 total G keys! like man, in mmorpgs i can macro like EVERY gear change and everything. with 54 keys its like impossible to use them all XD
There are media keys and a volume roller,. which all work great.
The software was disappointing imo. They said that the M65 and new keyboard like 70/95 had more refined software and etc, but i have the corsair M60 mouse, and the software is IDENTICAL LOL
I dont have any experience in other kb/mouse software, but corsair's seems pretty limited by itself. You can set any key commands to a macro, aswell as do "macro recording" to record a string of key presses for a macro.
But thats as far as it goes, i wish there could be more like conditionals and stuff, and just a ltitle more in depth control, but im not sure if any others offer that so.
On corsair forums i got a hardmacro profile for my mouse, which gives me what i want (tho some games block hard macro since its used for cheating purposes alot of times in fps games for quick scroping and making semi auto weapons fully auto). There may be one for keybaords to but i havent checked yet.
You get software/drivers from corsair website http://www.corsair.com/us/gaming-peripherals/gaming-keyboards/vengeance-k95-fully-mechanical-gaming-keyboard.html
and you can buy the K70 contoured/rubbered wasd 1-6 arrow keys from here http://www.corsair.com/us/parts/keyboard-parts.html and it IS compatible with the k95 (im prolly gonna get it soon lol). But ima see if they can sell me JUST they keys and key remover. i dont want the wrist rest tbh.
I dont really care for wrist rests, but the k95 one is decent really. its comfortable and doesnt get in the way.
o ya, and the k95 also has a bios mode (switch on back) to make it function as a normal keyboard, and is plug and play (no drivers needed), but you cant use the Gkeys then. But this allows you to use it on any os (like linux which may not have drivers) or if using a KVM switch.
You can also set polling rate, but idk why you wouldnt want 1000hz (which is 1 on the back)
And there is a usb passthrough cable to allow a usb cable to be plugged into back. I dont use it, since passthroughs are stupid imo. So i dont even plug that cable in. Idk why people complain about not have usb passthrough/hubs or audio passthrough on a keyboard...
