I found an I/O disk error on my SATA hard drive?

Question

Windows XP won't boot. I tried to use the recovery console and managed to fix disk errors and rebuild the boot.ini file etc. It still wouldn't work and after checking the disk on another computer I found 4 trojan horses.

I couldn't partition the drive as a I/O disk error occurred. My last resort is to format the disk.

Does the I/O error signify a hardware problem?

The I/O (Input/Output) error indicates that the BIOS is having a problem communicating with the hard drive. Either the drive is very full or more likely it is damaged.



You could try a low level format, if you know how to achieve that. (FDISK)



You should go to the HD manufactures site they will have tools that you can use to determine how fatal the problem is

An "I/O" disk error means the computer is having problems with input and output to the disk.

Sounds as if you have a problem with your hardware.

I think the Win XP cd you are using, doesnt have sata controller and thats why it is giving an error " there is no hard drive", You an try with another Origional license copy whichshould have SP2. ...ok...
