What do I convert my .MOV videos to for the best quality?

I record my videos with my canon and to my knowledge it records in HD. however, all the videos I put on my youtube aren't that great of quality. I convert using "any video converter" and convert them into .AVI and then edit in windows movie maker. when I convert them in any video converter, what should I convert them to? and in windows movie maker, what do I save the file as for the best quality? any help would be great!

It's great and all...but MOV is for Apple computers...sucks. And Apple sucks too!

I tried converting with just about all the free converters, even the ones that said they were highest quality... No luck, all the video was crap. Basically you don't want to convert the video, just about any converter expensive or not will degrade your video quality. For about the same price as a good converter, you can get a program for editing MOV files... Just check what files are compatible.
