i am trying to find the best way to save all files and documents on my old computer so i can transfer to new computer.please help

I would use an external hard drive (as suggested above). Other options include (depending on what type of media drives are available to you) : Rewrite-able cd's or dvd's, usb jump-drives, or you could upload all the files to an FTP site and then download them on the new computer. Of course, for the FTP site, you would need access and space on the server.

if it is an old PC, it likely has USB1 connectivity, so an external HDD or memory stick will be very slow. If you picked a good new PC, you should be able to open it up, and hook in your old HDD as a slave drive, and copy all you want from old HDD to new HDD. Please note that this is not the same as installing old apps on your new PC. If you have any old favourite apps, you still need the original installation file or disk to install onto new machine.
