What if you wanted to upgrade to vista from an earlier version of windows than xp? Could you do this? Also, do you need NTFS to upgrade to vista or could you use FAT32? I know you can change FAT32 to NTFS, but I just want to know if you can use FAT32 on vista if you wanted to.

You can upgrade from either XP or 2000. I don't believe the upgrade will care if the drive is formatted in FAT32 or NTFS.

FAT is no good, and is most likely not supported in Vistas.

If you are using an os that is earlier than xp, you almost without a doubt don't have the resources to upgrade to vistas.

look up vistas on wikipedia or ms site for the exact upgrade requirements.

I read them a while ago and I forget the exact requirements, but they are very resource intensive.

I have a new Dell laptop, and I cannot upgrade because I don't have the memory or hd space. I think the min memory is 500meg.

so to answer you question I don't think you can upgrade without issues or a severely slow running machine.

and if you could you would not want FAT. FAT is phased out for a reason. To many to list of for this question.

good luck
