i recently bought MSI G33M FI mainboard supporting HD audio codec called ALC888.The driver was bundled along with the mainboard and i was succesful in installing it the 1st time. One week later however my pc was infected with spywares and trojans so i had to reinstall XP SP2 in order for it 2 work properly. Now my audio drivers r not gettin' installed properly. Before the completion of setup i get a message:hd audio device failure [error code:-0001].And i when i tried installing normal non-hd audio drivers, message appears sayin':Audio device failure, reebot and run setup again. What could be the problem. Is my sound card defected??PLEASE HELP!!!!

Firstly go to My Computer, then right click on this icon, click PROPERTIES, THEN LOOK FOR DEVICE MANAGER, look for sound audio devices in the list and do uninstall or roll back driver. This will roll back the drievers to original factory settings.

Go to MSI official website (link provided below) search for your exact model number of your board its more thamn likely they will have all the official and correct drivers including latest bios upgrades on there site. Click the relevant links and download and install.

OR

Straight to the board support site G33M

IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED ANY AUDIO DRIVERS , UNINSTALL THESE.

DOWNLOAD FRESH AUDIO DRIVERS FROM UNDERNOTED LINK ( FOR WINDOWS XP)

i think, u need to to uninstall the previously installed driver first. And then restart. After restarting the pc, it will automatically ask about the audio, and then give the right path where your driver is installed.

do, this and let me know ..,

cheers,
