How do you promote someone to moderator on a minecraft server?

I just started a new server and I wanted to promote some of my friends to admins and moderators but I don't know how. Please help. I know how to op but i dont know how to promote to moderator or admin

Depends what plug-ins your using although Op is the highest rank on default Minecraft servers so if you have no plug-ins installed then that might be why you cant. I would suggest things like "/addadmin (playername)" or /admin (playername) although I suppose you tried those. Also go into the Minecraft server file and look for the .txt document (which should say things like Banned Ip and Op list) which says Admin or Moderator List. If this doesn't work look in your downloads and make sure the plug-ins are properly installed onto the minecraft server. All plug-ins normally have a read-me text on how to manage it so make sure you have grouped all your plug-ins which have something to do with ranking in one folder and look for the solution in there. Also try the website you got the plug-ins from on FAQ

The Bukkit addon to the vanilla Minecraft server is easily loose! All there is, is somewhat downloading understand-how, alot of f*cking stressful as F*CK config and permissions, and a few port forwarding. It would not cost you a dime till you bypass over your bandwidth shrink, or you utilize a paid provider.
