Question:
Recovering emails from Outlook Express dbx file?
2014-09-04 06:46:21 UTC
I exported my emails from my pc's XP Outlook Express 6 to my laptop's windows 8 Windows Live Mail. I copied the entire store folder with all of the .dbx files that I have for my current account. I found in a backup, a previous account's emails (a few years old) - so I wanted to integrate the old emails with the current ones. I tried different things and they didn't work. Finally I did a search on the internet and found a method that imported the .dbx folders. This worked except for one folder, Computer-Info (about 1035KB).

When I imported that file, I did not get the pop-up window that scanned the emails from that folder (progress bar). A folder is named Computer-Info appears in Outlook Express 6 and has a file size of 1035KB, but when I click on that folder, Outlook Express reads 0 emails (it's empty). I'm not sure if the file is damaged somehow so OE can't read any of the emails in that .dbx file.

Is there a way to recover all of those emails in the Computer-Info.dbx file? I want to recover those emails, if possible.

User can try DBX Repair Kit software which is capable of restoring every item from corrupt DBX files. Outlook Express stores mailbox data of its user in DBX file format. After the recovery you can save recovered file in* DBX or EML format.

Software Features:

1.Recovers all deleted, encrypted and compressed mails with attached files.

2.Supports all versions of Outlook Express.

3.Recovers email data even from password-protected Outlook Express .DBX files.

You could try restoring the Inbox.dbx file as a new file in Outlook Express:

Create a folder in Outlook Express and give it, a unique name, for example: Inbox01.

Click on the new folder: Inbox01 to open the folder, this will create the corresponding Inbox01.dbx file in the message store.

Verify the Read-only attribute is unchecked on the Inbox.dbx file you are restoring, then rename the Inbox.dbx file with the same name as the new folder you created in Outlook Express: Inbox01.dbx

Using Windows Explorer or My Computer navigate to the Outlook Express Message Store.

Close Outlook Express.

Copy the .dbx file that you renamed to Inbox01.dbx and paste it into the Outlook Express Message Store. You will be overwriting the new Inbox01.dbx file with your backup .dbx file.

Open Outlook Express and access the Inbox01 folder, the messages contained in the backup .dbx file should appear.

HI

DBX files are main files of Outlook Express. In case if these files got corrupt then user has to face big problems. Manual recovery of these files is not possible. To recover corrupt DBX files I would suggest you to use professional DBX recovery software like Stellar Phoenix Outlook Express Recovery software. Demo version of this software is free of cost available at official webpage.
