He called to say that they (I should have asked who they were, I know, but I didn't) had detected a problem with my computer, which could cause crashes and slow my computer down; so he asked me to turn on my computer, and when it had started told me to press the Start button in the bottom left hand corner. When I told him that I did not have one, just the Linux KDE application launcher, we suddenly got cut off. Will he call back and continue to help me with the problems he found, and what would he have asked me to do if I had been running Windows? ;-)

This is a known scam. People phone you up and convince you to download remote access software then they infect your PC with malware.

that all sounds very fishy to me, i would trust him as far as i could throw him

think about it, why would someone else want to help you

why would THEY RING YOU up to help with your computer if you didnt know them.

think about it logically, i stranger ring you up, asks you to go on your computer and download software to 'speed it up' - DO NOT DO IT

think about this, he is obviously trying to get ur pc infected with a virus, when he found that ur running linux he put the phone down because if was obviously a windows virus

hahhaha...thats so funny.

They probably don't know a thing about Linux.

Its a scam, they will tell you to go Event Log and often/always there are error logs there.

So then they will tell you to give them your credit card details so they will fix or send software to fix this. Don't fall for these tricks,
