Trying to copy a file from one Linux box to another. Keep getting FIle Too Large error.?

I have tried rsync, SSH, SCP, and even ssh user@remotehost -C "cat /path/to/bigfile" | dd of=bigfile. They all crap out at about 16 or 17GB with a file too large error. I'm out of my mind, no idea what to try next.

compress the file ---try this free one from iboit---- winrar

The destination drive is not big enough mate to take the file try deleting some thing off the destination drive and it should then transfer mate ok.
