When you install Windows the system sets up your Virtual Memory to about 1½ times the size of your RAM. It also takes into account the size of your Hard Disc drive and allows approx 10% of it's free space size. So if your disc is nearly full it will start to have problems.

First thing to stop your problem is to not to have too many programs open at once. Although you not actually using them they are running in the background and taking the RAM's resources which then overspills into the virtual memory.

Another way to help is if you right click on My Computer ► Properties ► Advanced ► Performance ► Advanced ► Virtual Memory ► Change the button setting to "System Managed Size" ► Click on Set ► Apply & OK ► The system will now ask you to reboot for the settings to take effect ► Click on OK.

This now allows the system to be flexable and can adjust the Virtual Memory as required with out being fixed between two parameters. With a bit of luck that should solve your problem!

You also might want to think about increasing the size of your RAM.

Step 1: Go to Run on Start Menu and type %temp%

Step 2: Delete all the files and folders

Step 3: On the same windows press UP button and go to Temporary Internet Files

Step 4: Delete all folders and files, Leave index.dat

Step 5: Go to Control Panel - Open System - In that window Go to Advanced Tab

Step 6: On Performance click Setting - then Go to Advanced Tab

Step 7: On Virtual Memory - Click change - In that new window Click Custom Size

Step 8: Initial Size (MB) = 1000 and Maximum Size (MB) = 1500

Click Ok

Now your computer run faster and no more error

Follow these steps:

In Windows XP

1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.

5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.

6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.

7.Click Set

When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.

HOT TIP: To stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file, set the initial and maximum size to the same value. For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768

In Vista

1. Click Start button Picture of the Start button

2. Click Control Panel

3. Choose System and Maintenance and then click System.

4. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.

5.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

6. Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, choose Change.

7. Click Custom to change the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size. See the hot tip above.

Virtual Memory is space allocated on your hard drive for those times when your physical memory (RAM) is not enough.

To increase the amount of virtual memory go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory "Change" > Custom Size > adjust as needed. 2 times your physical RAM is a good minimum and 3 times your physical memory in MB is good for your maximum.

The only easy way to "clear" memory is to reboot (restart) your machine. but it will only be temporary. It will soon fill-up again.

The best solution is to buy an additional stick of RAM, and install it which will increase the amount of physical memory on your computer. RAM is dirt cheap these days and your computers performance will increase substantionally with the additional memory.
