Try good optimization software, like Auslogics BoostSpeed. There is more to computer maintenance than cleaning junk and defragging. For example, it's good to defragment the registry too.

Also run Chkdsk (right-click on a drive you want to check - Properties - Maintenance). If the drive has errors, then the computer would be slow.

U haven't mentioned ur pc configuration & OS. anyway the following applies to any pc. If u have installed OS has aged means more than 3-4 months, the system becomes slow. It is not due to OS, but due to worms, trojans...... Ur normal antivirus cant able to find it.

Back up all the data, format & install the OS. JUST AFTER INSTALLING OS install a good total protective system (i prefer norton 360V4, which runs fast & u have 30 or 90 days free trial). then only install other softwares. If u have drivers in original cd/dvd u can install it before antivirus. If it is in rewritable media means then pls install antivirus first & then install drivers. Many don't understand how worms, trojans work. also download & install free "superantispyware" or malwarebytes antispyware.

With norton 360 & malwarebytes its hard to enter virus, worms,trojans...to ur system

I have only first used it recently but System Mechanic 9 or later is a very good & comprehensive piece of software. It has lots & lots of different tools to "tune up" your PC - from "streamlining" your internet connection to cleaning out old junk to speeding up boot time. It can definitely give your PC some of the sprightliness it lost over time, most noticeably if you haven't done a "spring clean" on your PC for a while. It should also be very easy to use for the majority of regular computer users.

Everyone's opinion is different but it definitely worked for me. Alternatively, Tune Up Utilities should do you good too.

None of these are free but the fact that they are all-in-one suites makes them very easy on time as you won't have to go trawling through different software packages to do specific things...

Most programs to make computers faster don't work or only work a little, the best ways to make a computer faster are either by: changing to windows 7, upgrading ram, deleting unused programs or going to the task manager disabling some useless tasks.

Sometimes adding or replacing the memory RAM will speed it up. If you only have 256 or 512 Megabytes of RAM you should consider increasing it to 1 or 2 Gigabytes.

That will definitely speed it up.

get WinDirStat this will show you where most of large files on your computer are. Delete files you don't need. Go to task manager- processes than click sort them by memory usage by clicking on the column. If you see something taking to much memory end that process. Make sure you don't end anything you don't know because it might mess up with computer.

One way to speed up your system is to select a good PC optimizer and System cleaner such as reginout from Intel Software Directory http://ibx.intel.com/directory/Default.aspx
