The only way to format a CPU is to remove it from the computer and the put it into an EPROM writer for that type of chip, and then reload the microcode.

This is not a format in the data sense of the word, more like an upgrade, in order to get back to the previous version the same procedure would have to be followed.

No data is stored on a CPU, and it cannot be formatted. The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is, basically, the processor. A HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or SSD (Solid State Drive) stores data, and that is what you format. And yes, formatting a drive will erase all data on the drive. It MIGHT be recoverable by professionals if you haven't used it yet after the format, though, and some data might be recoverable for a long time. If it's a security thing, you need a multipass wipe to make data truly unrecoverable. It absolutely IS possible to make the data truly unrecoverable, even by the DoD. The DoD uses a 7 pass wipe. You can get 30 pass wipes for home use.

A Central Processing Unit (CPU) cannot be formatted- it's just the part of a computer (abbreviated comp if you're going to abbreviate it at all) that handles data processing. If you mean to say a formatted hard drive within a computer, then yes, the data can be recovered. Formatting the hard drive doesn't actually delete the data. All it does is delete the directory on the disk that tells your computer where physically on the disk each file is, so the computer no longer can find the files. There are programs that search the entire disk looking for files even without that directory.

The only way to make the data unrecoverable is to actually overwrite the entire hard drive. There are programs that do this for you. Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN) is probably the most popular.

Let's consider this as a newbie question. 1st of all, the CPU cannot be formated. The hard disk is the one formated on a computer.

To answer your question after correcting it. There are some software out there that can recover lost or formated data, but not all the files are recoverable.

Suggestion: Always do backup before formating your Hard Disk..

Why ??? R u trying to hide something you did??? O oh, data in the hard drive will never be erased. It will always b there... law enforcement will still find out. You' re doomed.
