I fairly have in no way heard of XP 2003. i do no longer think of it exists. As for SP1, SP2, and so on they are service packs that fix themes interior the previous variations. often a SP makes an significant replace that's better than in simple terms a patch can preserve.

This is normal. SP stands for "service pack," which is a roll up of updates for the operating system to improve stability, security, etc. Microsoft automatically distributes these and at some point your PC picked up the updates and installed them. Your CD says SP1 because at the time it was printed, it had all the fixes from SP1 included.

Should you have to re-install your operating system, when you connect to windows update it will find service pack 2 and prompt you to install it.

SP1 or SP2, both are latest set of updates. SP2 is the latest update compared to SP1.
