So i use ubuntu, which if you dont know what that is, you shouldnt even be answering questions about linux
anyway im looking for another FREE linux distro, that is asthetically pleasing to the eye, shiny, the works haha

the thing is, i do NOT want a Debian based Linux distro, which means
NO gOS
no KUBUNTU
no BUNTUS!
haha
Mepis was ok
but not for me
any suggestions that fall into that criteria? haha
thanks in advance
oh and whoever suggests the best looking OS wins best answer, i dont care if the answer is long or short.

Debian-basedd Linux distros are the easiest to use, though.

Very few distros actually look nice by default, but the desktop environments are so configurable, you can make them look as nice as you want. Ubuntu uses the gnome desktop, so all you have to do is find some gnome themes:

One of my favorite Linux distros is Linux Mint, which also uses gnome:

Actually the best looking linux distro by default is sabayon:

http://www.sabayonlinux.org/

Sabayon is gentoo-based, and isn't exactly friendly to beginners. But if you take the time to learn it, you'll love it. Sabayon Linux uses KDE instead of Gnome. You can also get KDE themes here:

OK here is the funny thing you can make them all look mostly the same. if you did kde or gnome or xfce what ever your flavor of desktop is all the same whether its debian, slackware, or redhat, based. the only reason I always suggust ubuntu (debian) based goodies like linux mint are ease of use if you are more advanced then by all means give the others a try take a peek at www.distrowatch.com and run through the scrrenshots of them all cause they all can do the same pretty or lack of prety thing. other then that is that berly effect jazz.

anyways maybe I am not getting your question cause it is only a pic on the desktop that anyone can change if thats what is pleasing to your eye I would choose a distro on how comfortable I am with it first and change the pic second

pclinuxos is rpm based and easy to use. it reminds me of ubuntu though.

best looking is kinda deceiving because you can use any desktop environment you want. i find kde ugly, but like gnome.

enlightenment desktop is beautiful. Elive is a debian distro but has enlightment as it's default desktop.

Gebuntu is the ubuntu distro that uses enlighenment

so don't count out debian. i find it more stable than rpm based distros. the repositories are better too.

Ubuntu would do properly, previous-timers did attack it being slender in offering a strict set of courses (i'd say polished and easy) at initiating yet others offering 5 textual content cloth editors looked somewhat undesirable and messy. It does not look previous like living house windows 2000, it quite is in basic terms polished study to others in the %..

Are you wanting this as your main OS, or just something to tinker with?
