Pretty much what KSP and revolution said, all your documents get wiped when reinstalling / updating OS and Id recomend you getting windows 7 and to my knowledge its rather expensive.

I second what KSP said....when you reinstall windows it normally formats the hard drive, in essence wiping the drive completely clean of everything so any programs you had installed and files you might have made are gone. You could try some file retrival software to try to find the lost files but the programs will need to be re installed from scratch.

Start up the current install.

Run the "check disk" utility. This will decommission any bad sectors on the hard drive.

Insert the Windows Install disk.

Select the "Repair Windows" option.

Follow prompts.

Good luck.
