I recently bought a new Dell with an AMD processor. It uses Windows Vista. Since I bought it, it gets stuck when I try shutting down. It just shows the shut down screen and stays like that for hours. Why is this happening? And what can I do to fix it?

If not malware most likley driver issues. At any rate....do you know when it was working and shutting down properly? Can you system restore to that time? Here is an another answer which I googled for you:

The wireless mouse/keyboard drivers could be causing the issue, but see

Could be a few things.. Possibly check your hibernation settings... Go to control panel then power managment there may be something set there that has it do a hard disk shutdown and not a full shut-down.. Or could be doing updates. Personally I do not like vista its like other apps that first come out its too new and has a lot of bugs and I would wait about 2 years before I would attempt to use it on a machine.

1. computer maybe infected with virus-Get an antivirus.

2. Try to check the Event Log- It will contain data when there is a failure which could be prove to be useful.

Well, could be malware or virus but i doubt that since you just bought it..

Hmm check if there is a promblem with your registry(#1 problem.). Check your power settings( in control panel) .

When it happens, run Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and see what program is still running. That's most likely what's causing the problem. (Windows can't close until all running programs give it permission.)
