For Windows, the best and fastest is definitely uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/).
On Mac, I'm partial to Transmission. (http://www.transmissionbt.com/)
For full-featured on Windows, at least, there's also Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/).

I have found uTorrent to be the best torrent client aswell.

I have tried Azureus, but it felt too bloated.
Bittornado is ok, didnt look professional, lack of support for me.
I highly recommend utorrent, its super lightweight, and super fast.
Also it has great support forums.

Azureus by far. FYI, speed soley depends on a number of factors that are tweaked by the end user, ISP, and remote client(s). Azureus provides the most user-tweakability to the peer.

I have tried many and now only use uTorrent from http://www.utorrent.com
It is small and fast and isn't a resource hog like some other Bittorrent programs

µTorrent is the world's most popular BitTorrent client. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange. ====== ======
