Every time i start the computer its really slow, And if i have Limewire open and it open Firefox, Internet explorer or Aim etc. it all like freezes for around 10 seconds and Limewire says ( Not Responding ).Then the browser opens up... its really annoying. So its basically hard to multitask, Is there any way i can make it faster or fix the problem?

Limewire will slow your computer down as everything you download you're also "seeding" so once you download it other people can download it from you, so it's best to make it so that doesn't open on startup and cancel people from being able to seed from you. RAM is another issue which slows down your computer so you might want to think about upgrading.

When you have a virus your computer might not show signs although it shows signs of slowing down this could be the issue make sure you have an up to date virus scan (do a live update of the registries). Get spybot search and destroy to get rid of any spyware you might have lurking in your system, download CCleaner and run that which will get rid of your temporary downloaded files, sometimes you can have a very large folder of this this will free alot of space and speed it up. then finaly do a disk defragmenter this will get rid of corrupted data and will sort out your system and normaly half your start up speed. doing this you should see major speed increasing results.

Good luck if this helped please vote best answer.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by altering your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

Hello,

I have the correct answer to your question. There are a few reasons for this. The reasons are:

1) Virus, probably a worm

2) A heavy anti-virus or other program (Eset Smart Security 4.0 is best)

3) Low RAM

I had a worm in my computer and it was like dead. After that I have other viruses and because of that my computer gets hanged and errors all the time I got Eset Smart Security and my computer runs like new.

For more protection you can use kaspersky but it is heavy

I hope this helps

Try to remove limewire and some application from start up that is not so much important to you, ( etcc.. Limewire, skype, ym, ) you can access it manually if you need them to use.

go to:

1. start button

2.run

3.type in the blank space: (msconfig) and hit enter

4. look at tab startup and choose the application that you want to disable when windows startup and hit apply then ok.

or you can choose disable all. and restart your computer.

hope it helps!

downloading all that virus stuff actually doestn really do anything....and defragmenting your disk doesnt work much eaither....those are just extra things.

computers get like that cuz they have to much stuff on them sometimes..and if its not that then its just the computer....all computers will do that for the most part, a new computer will maybe last for a couple of months then it might get like that again.....its all a game of chance

Well you can download Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner and clean your computer, also perform a disk fragmentation, but your processor or RAM may need an upgrade for you to really experience any different in the speed and performance of your computer.
