ive been looking around here to try and find an answer to a question that i had...

i have an hp laptop (bought a few months ago)... it has windows vista, and it has pretty good space in it... i dont have that many programs in it because i want to keep it clean and i am tryin to avoid any probs with havin it slow down... i have the main programs that the comp came with, i have itunes, and the zune software... mmmmm i just got an external hardrive to back up all my information this past weekend (and i did back most of it on there), i have "trend micro" and "spysweeper" also on there...

here is the issue, i usually go and delete the cookies, and internet history (lets say once or twice a week)... for somereason, yesterday, spysweeper told me it had an alert... I was going to clik on it when behind it (im not sure if it was from spysweeper or trendmicro) a small windo ppoped up (real quick) and bearly got to read something like a TROJAN (ive heard this is kinda like a virus or something)... so as soon as the popup left, the comp turned off, but restarted itself.. i the window thing said that i needed to start the computer in safemode or normal (u guys know what im talking about).. and i clik normal... as soon as it starts loading, it restarts, and again, and again.. so i waited the next time and didnt want to mess with it,so instead of loggin in, i turned it off, it turned back on..... then i waited.. and tunred it off, and it did.. (this was yesterday)... today, i turned it on, logged in, and hit safemode (nithing happend, well it restarted) then i tried safemode with networking) i was able to get in it... (it was all weirdlooking and found a msg that said something about a BlueScreen prob.. osversion.... locate id... and so on)... so i turned it off (the right way).. then tried loggin in normal... but the same thin, so i just turned it off..

i will be takin it to a computer place, i just want to know if anyone out here knows what it is, so that way i know what to expect from the computer guys to say... and not bs me around...

thank you all...

thank you!!!!

have a good one

It would be stupid if you take it to a computer repair shop. Find the instructions that came with your laptop and see how you can create your recovery disks. (You should have done this first). Well from what you said it appears that you won;t be able to access the recovery disk creator program. So. During bootup press f10 or f11 to launch the recovery program. Once it opens choose factory defaults or complete system recovery or whatever it is called then click next. Follow the onscreen instrucitons and in 14 minutes your computer should be like new. My best guess is that SpySweeper did find something like a Trojan Horse. If Safe Mode without networking is stable enough, try launching SpySweeper and run it. If possible, use networking in safe mode and update your definitions, but even without that, a Safe Mode scan should find and clean up a few things. Then run SpySweeper again until nothing further shows up.

By this time you may be able to get into Normal Mode. If so, download Super AntiSpyware, and update it and run it in Safe Mode, again repeating until it finds nothing more to clean up.

Finally, download and install CCleaner (a free system and Registry cleanup utility) and run the Registry Cleanup and the System Cleanup in CCleaner. You should be pretty clean after that.

All a computer shop will do, is reformat your hard drive and reinstall your original operating system, just as it was when the computer was new. They cannot work magic -- and you could do this operation yourself if nothing else works. But you will lose data if you have not backed it up.

Also, most computer stores will try to sell you some new software or hardware, and charge you a fortune for the whole experience. I do not recommend computer stores -- find a local, certified, independent technician if you need a virus cleanup.

something not quite the same happened me, but its relevant enough for me to tell you i think

when i got my dell xps laptop a few months ago, a few days after i got it i was installing windows update (its vista too) and after i installed them, the computer just kept restarting and restarting, i never got as far as logging on.

I rang up the support line and in the end i had to wipe the whole hard drive.

no problems since tho.

The problem was a windows update made the computer crash cos it wasnt compatible or something (it was the updates fault anyway, not the computer).

If you cant fix it wipe the hard drive, id say thats certain to fix it.

you format by pressing an "F" key, i think f8 or f10 when the system is booting, then brings up a menu and follow steps

Check to make sure your monitor is plugged in and turned on. Also make sure it's connected to the pc. If it still isn't showing anything on the screen, it's possibly he messed up the video card. Though, most newer, off the shelf computers have on-board video...

Same thing I have, virus.

Get ANTI-VIRUS software.

Or get people round to look at it.

Good luck!
