I just bought a laptop, and I want to buy a dongle for it so that I can go on holiday abroad and in England. I don't know much about it though, so I don't know if I need a router as well! If I buy a dongle, will I be allowed to use it abroad? And what is the difference between a dongle and a dongle adapter?

The way wireless internet works is you need a router and an adapter. If you're traveling you can't bring the router with you because you need to plug it into a modem for it to work. You will need to just buy the dongle and connect to an access point that is around you. If you want to get charged for internet but also want to be able to go anywhere i suggest something like this:

Otherwise get something like these:

A dongle is a small portable piece of hardware that connects to a computer, like a wireless adapter. A dongle adapter is just something that you attach so you are able to plug in the dongle.

You may need to buy a dongle in England from thier local internet provider. Most modern laptop have wifi built in, and can get connected in many hot spots internet caffees. I am sure the computer shop where you just bought the laptop will give you sound advices.

You are referring to the USB mobile braodband adapter, to use it in UK is fine as the contract would cover your usage within your allowed bandwidth.

But aboard is different, you need the company to allow access outside UK, plus the cost would be huge as they would need you to pay a premium price to piggyback off other operators with that country.
