I really need help. I got this new wireless internet today, and i need it to work for both my laptop and my computer. But it only seems to on my laptop, does anyone know why this might be? Or how i might be able to get it to work on my computer? I was told by another friend that i might need to buy a flash drive, but i don't see how that would help. All answers well appreciated, really need the help!

Ok, well this problem can be overcome hopefully :/ I shall do my best!!!! :)

Now, here is some possible solutions :)

Wireless network interface card to connect desktop pc to wireless router-> can either be a small usb device, much like a usb flash drive, or a pci express card that physically slots into your motherboard.

Create a network bridge via rj45 ethernet from laptop to desktop pc<- unrecommended lol

use good old ethernet to link the desktop pc to the wireless router :)

hope some of these solutions are of help, and if you should require more help, please ask!!! :D

Does your computer have a wireless adapter?? Maybe that is what your friend meant by flash drive. Only other thing is a flash drive can be used by windows to transfer setting for an internet connection

Not a flash drive. Your friend has absolutely no understanding of computers. You either need to connect the computer with a network cable, there will be a port on the router for this, or buy a wireless card (often called a wireless dongle) which will plug in to a USB port on the computer.

Desktop computers do not come ready for WIFI. What you need to add would be either a WIFI card that connects via one of the PCI slots inside your computer or a WIFI dongle that will connect via a USB port. You can purchase these items at places like Wal Mart, Staples, Office Depot, or any good computer supply store. They are not very expensive, usually around $30 or so.

I have my router coupled into my computer with the internet cable (it`s faster that way anyway) as my desktop has no built-in wireless receiver. My wife and son are on my network, my wife has a laptop which has a built-in receiver but my son (who has a desktop) needs a `wireless dongle` to get on the internet.

I hope this helps.

your desktop needs a wifi adapter.

it doesnt have any way to "see" the wireless network, you need to buy either a USB wifi adapter (which looks a lot like a flash drive, thats why you were confused) or a internal wifi card (it goes inside the pc instead of sticking out the usb port)

either way, cant get wireless internet without a way to SEE the wireless internet.

just like how you cant type without a keyboard.

Sounds like you need a USB WiFi Adapter such as this. :)

did it come with a disk?

If not, take a flash drive, go to C:/program files/(company name) and copy all the files from there onto your flash drive. then just put those copied filed into the same file on your PC.

Most "big" computers don't have an antenna. You need to buy (it's cheap;)

ask INTERNET PROVIDER SERVICE MAN WHO INSTALLED IT.
