Seen a lot of questions about torrent sites and dowloaders. Did you know there is an alternative.?

I use a site called newzbin in conjunction with a newsgroup called thundernews. For the downloads I use a programme called grabit usenet downloader. What you get is far superior to anything on torrent sites as:

(1) It does not use the principle of P2P file downloads.
(2) All files have an editors comments and full description.
(3) All files are dowloaded as rar files.
(4) All files as at (1) are downloaded from newsgroup
servers at a dowload speed of between 450 &
800 kbs. No torrent site can match this.

Any else out there using the same method - How are you finding it and what are you using. I find that even for the small outlay you're getting a hell of lot for your money.

(a) Usenet is as old as the hills, and you only get what you want if someone has posted it to a news server. These are public and global, and the source is traceable. Also *your* IP is traceable from the server. If the copyright police ever come knocking on door of whoever runs the news server...



(b) RAR is just a compression format. Big deal.



(c) The speed you get torrents is entirely dependant on the number of peers sharing, and their upload bandwidth settings.



I know you're trying to help, but spreading wrong information helps no-one.

Newsgroups are great...however not all ISPs allow unlimited DLing from them so you need to buy data plans that will allow for more downloading, thus negating the 'free DL' one would get via torrents.
