Before, all file extension names like .exe or .avi or .mp3 were hidden from view and you didn't have to have those extensions showing to make the programs or music or video work. Now they are showing up and I'm now having to have these showing in order for a lot of my programs/videos/music to play/work. Is there any way to hide these extensions like how it used to be?

Right click on the file, then choose properties. You should be able to edit the file name. Take off the extension.

You can show/hide file extensions as follows:

1) Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options

2) Select "View" Tab

3) Scroll down in "Advances Settings" window and either check/uncheck (as appropriate) the "Hide extensions for known filetypes" checkbox

4) Click "Apply" and "Okay"

This should make the file type extensions go away when you are viewing files in Windows Explorer. Whether or not it will resolve your problem of being able to make your files work without them, I don't know. The root of that problem may be something different. Good luck!
