Hi! I have problem with opening My computer folder, and opening broadband connection. Here's the thing; when I start my computer, and my Windows Xp are log on, I have to wait about 5 minutes to open My computer or broadband connection. Everything else I can open in a second - that is any folder etc. My documents on desktop. I don' t know what is the problem. I defrag my disk with Smart defrag 2, I clean my computer from any spywear using Spy Bot search and destroy , and I even defrag my registry with Free registry defrag 3.0. Also, I used Ccleaner. But apparently noting works. Any suggestions?

Check that you do not have any mapped drives that are no longer valid. This normally does not happen on a home computer, but can be a problem on computers in a domain at work or on a home network with shared sources but those other computers are offline.

Another thing to check on is the network neighborhood. If XP has too many connections there, this could impact performance as XP attempts to validate each of those connections. Delete any icons listed network neighborhood that are not really used.

One last thing to check for are media card slots, floppy disk drives (if any), CDs, or USB devices with removable media (such as Zip Drives, digital cameras, etc). Removing these reduces the things that Windows tries to enumerate and index.

If none of these apply, then you may have a valid application that has hooks into Windows Explorer since you've already scanned for malware. You could try uninstalling extraneous software you no longer use. Examples could be value-add software that came with an all-in-one printers, photo-managing and sharing utilities, or programs that manage data transfers to network storage.

hi, (ANS) you may no longer deliver a fax over a braodband connection!! no one tells you this yet i found out the perplexing way. Why? faxing is previous technologies, is extremely sluggish in assessment to broadband & ADSL. Faxing demands an previous shaped telephone line, and faxing is sluggish and runs at 33,000kbps. **Faxing is fax gadget to fax gadget, or from a domicile windows computer mutually with XP yet with an previous fax modem (dailup telephone line) linked. So the fax modem can dailup out to a telephone extensive style which has a fax gadget or fax answering gadget. or maybe yet another computer with a fax modem, the two way faxing demands a dailup telephone extensive style you may no longer do it over braodband itself (sure! you should use the voice channel of your broadband purely like an previous telephone line, subsequently you should use that portion of the broadband to deliver faxes). What you have done is not wrong, but if you get bad performance continuously try to upgrade hardware as well.

Use defrag and optimize, not just defrag
