I am printing up legal documents and I want to put the word "copy" across them as they are a copy, but I can't even find an image online anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find one, or even how to get one onto a document??

If you're using Microsoft Word, it has a built-in watermark feature.

In Word versions prior to Word 2007:

1. Click on the Format->Background->Printed Watermark menu item. If Printed Watermark is disabled (grayed out), the document is probably in Web page view. You can't use watermarks on Web pages.

2. In the dialog box, select Text Watermark.

3. Put the text you want in the Text combination box.

4. Select Diagonal or Horizontal.

5. Select Semitransparent

6. Click OK.

7. Click the Tools->Options menu item.

8. Click the Print Tab.

9. Under Include with Document, check the checkbox for Drawing Objects.

10. Click OK.

In Word 2007:

1. On the Page Layout tab on the ribbon, in the Page Background section, click Watermark.

2. Click Custom Watermark.

3. In the dialog box, select Text Watermark.

4. Put the text you want in the Text combination box.

5. Select Diagonal or Horizontal.

6. Select Semitransparent

7. Click OK.

8. Click the Office Button.

9. Click the Word Options button.

10. Click the Display tab.

11. Under Printing Options, check Background Colors and Images

12. Click OK.

That should do it.

The typesetting term You would search for to find the right program, or to just get a graphic for is "watermark".

The watermark is also easy enough to place on a page BEFORE You actually print something btw - or You can actually print a copy without it, load the paper back into a printer, then just print a homemade graphic of the word copy as You want it to appear over the document.

Once you've actually printed the copy over it, You can re-scan it into Your system and use that for Your next print.

Although the multiple steps mentioned are a pain, hopefully looking for a program that allows You to print a watermark (Most versions of Microsoft and Open Office do) will save You some time and effort.

Most of those cheap word processors and publishers from stores like Staples and OfficeMax for $4.99 - $9.99 also allow a watermark print btw.

Good Luck!.

Hello Caroline,

Yes, this can be done with Microsoft Word, assuming that's what you're using. Open the application and create a new document, or open an existing one. Click on the "Page Layout" tab from the menu bar. Click the "Watermark" icon to initate the Watermark drop down menu. From here, you can click a standard watermark or you can select the "Custom Watermark" option. You will then get the Printed Watermark menu. You can either select a picture or create a text watermark. This should do it.

since you have word 2007. You need to click on the windows sign in the upper left corner of the window. Then a drop down menu will appear, and you should select save as. Also make sure that it saves as a 97-2003 word document. because .docx files do not work on other versions of word.

Use a watermark.

I used that once and it works if you want a watermark or something like that.
