please can someone?

Question

tell me what chkdsk utility is? Its telling me I have 6 corrupt and unreadable temp internet files then things like IE5\2CSHKDZ which I dont understand :0(

Do as folk say but also use CCleaner, a free tool to clean your pc of junk files like these

download the "Slim" version. It will clean internet explorer and windows for you; there is a section called System, make sure the boxes are checked for temporary files, memory dumps,chkdsk file fragments,log files and old prefetch data. It will help keep your pc clean

1. CHKDSK is much more like a Scandisk or Norton Disc Doctor utility, which scans your computer for file system errors. While in the past CHKDSK is just an insignificant program compared by Scandisk, as Windows continues to improve, CHKDSK eventually replaces Scandisk's function, so since about Windows 2000, the Scandisk is dumped.



2. About your error, you don't have to worry, since it's located in the Internet TEMPORARY files, which means the files' importance is insignificant. You can also fix the error by delete the Internet Temporary Files (go to Internet Explorer menu Tools / Internet Options / General tab / Delete Files).



3. If you've already started to received such errors, it's probably a good idea to schedule a full system scan with CHKDSK at the next system boot. You won't ever know what error lurks within your computer before you full-scanning it.



4. Note, if you can, please don't use title words just like "please can someone" only because that will draw people (especially people who are expert on answering your question) away from opening your question. If they won't open your question, how would you expect them to answer? =)

CHKDSK means "Check Disk" & is a command line in MS-Dos in order to check your disk. But the error you recieve is about your temporary internet files; they're not really important, you can easily delete them without harming your PC, but you may lose your internet history, which isn't really important. To delete the files, go to My Computer, then right click on each of your drives (e.g. C: ), then select "properties" & then click "clean up", there, check the "temporary internet files" if it's not checked by default & then perform the task, so the files will be deleted & you'll get rid of that msg.

Just adding to the last post...



Activate Check Disk in Windows XP for next boot, Check Disk scan will take anything from 40mins onwards...

1. Double Click "My Computer"

2. Right mouse "Click Local Disk (C:)"

3. Click "Properties"

4. Click "Tools"

5. Click "Check Now" in the Error-checking

6. Tick "Automatically fix file system errors"

7. Tick "San for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"

8. Click "Start"

9. Click "Yes" to schedule the Disk Check.



This will check your disk drive and files for any problems and hopefully repair them.

1: when you have the intenet page up... click on Tools/Internet options/advanced.. then scroll arrow down to the 9th one from the bottom.. and make sure " empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed" is ticked...done!! 2: chckdsk utility checks your discs for problems.. if you have any other problems.. email me, and i will tell you how to system restore etc,... g'luck

go to my computer right click your hard drive it most likely says (C:) click on properties click disk clean up..



Or you can go to internet explorer click tools on the menu click internet options, temporary internet files, click delete files..
