I was recently running on windows xp pro but my computer became infected with spyware and in the end, windows became corrupted and it couldn't be fixed. Right now, my computer has 2 OS's running on it, the broken unusable xp pro and xp home that im running now. Is there a way i can recover a few files from the old os? all my old files should still be there, i just cant access them through the corrupted windows. thanks.

1. Try search. Search for the files by their name.

2. If you kept the files in a specific folder on the C drive, then they should be accessible by Windows Explorer.

3. If you kept the files on the Desktop or Documents, you can go there with Explorer. RtClk Start>Explore>Documents and Settings>Your Old User id>Desktop (Documents, or whatever.)

If you can see the files and can't open them, you can RtClk the folder>Properties>Security>Advanced>Ownership>Take Ownership.

Download a portable version of linux, e.g. Puppy linux

Don't worry, it is very easy to use.

no need to install.

Run it and then copy the files you need from the hard drive, which contains the corrupt windows and paste it onto a flash drive, etc.

if you are scared of this, just download some data recovery software,
