Question:
Windows 7 RC is extremely slow after "Welcome" screen?

Hello, I've been running W7 RC for quite a while now, ca after two weeks post its release. I went off to a LAN, worked fine there, came back home and now I'm having major issues with starting my system up.

The problem; The computer runs fine until _after_ the "Welcome" screen, thereafter it just loads and loads, etc. (mouse icon spins). Thereafter it continuously just sits there and does nothing, the mouse works fine, and so does keyboard input, but the whole system is running at such a extremely slow rate its annoying the heck outta me.
Even Ctrl+Alt+Delete is slow.
(I can even see the individual desktop shortcuts loading their image, one by one).

If I start up the system in safe mode, everything works fine.

Should I try moving the RAM around into different slots? Checking if the graphics cards is in place. etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like you have recently downloaded an update (and there have been loads of them recently) and it is trying to recompile system files during the boot time. Usually windows recompiles its files while the computer is not in use. It also could be making a shadow volume backup. Best to leave it on for a while when you are not doing something on it. Give windows time to sort itself out. Restart after things seem to have sorted themselves out and see if its still slow. I am on Windows 7 rc1 build 7100 on an advent 6441 laptop and find it a lot faster than Vista at booting/shutting down. It also seems better in normal use and uses less memory and processor time than Vista.

windows 8 sucks and here is why: -it does not make your computer faster...Microsoft just says that so they can get easy money from simple minded people like you and they fail to people like me who actually know stuff about computers, in fact windows 8 uses more power. operating systems do not make your computer magically faster, its the cpu,ram and the motherboard mostly. -it has no start botton -it is pretty much a tablet operating system to be used on a computer/laptop. there is more i am leaving out but since i dont own a computer with windows 8 i dont know. and some of the other people that answered saying dont listen to your clueless friend bla,bla,bla... you guys are the clueless ones and we know what is right. and windows 8 is NOT a improvement, it is a degraded piece of **** OS. Someone should step-in at Microsoft and change it.
