I don't know how old you are, but if you are living at in his house, it is his right to make the rules. Especially if he bought the laptop for you. You may not like what I have to say, but that is just the way life is.

As far as wanting him to trust you, give him reason to. Have you done things to cause him to not trust you? If so, then it will take a while to earn back that trust. Maybe by his looking at your browser history and seeing that you don't do things that he doesn't want you to do, then you will EARN his trust again.

Trust is something that you have to earn in life.

Just wait until you are a parent and have to deal with this issue and you will understand.

By the way, be thankful that your dad cares enough about you that he watches over you and wants to protect you. He does this because he loves you.

There are a lot of weird evil people in this world.

Let's see...he gave you life, gave you an education, gave you a laptop computer, and is trying to keep you safe by monitoring which websites you visit. I must be missing something... what's the problem here?

If you want to be trusted, don't go to any websites that he would find objectionable. If he keeps checking your browsing history, he must be finding those types of sites. If he checked a couple times in a row and everything was peachy keen, he'd probably check less and less often, and most likely stop completely after awhile.
2007-07-19 09:15:51 UTC
I really don't see how you can...Even clearing the history there are still residual memories and data from your browsing. And that being said if he really wanted to he would still be able to spy on you.

I am sure he loves you and he only has your best interests at heart, maybe try and explain to him that he doesnt have to look at your history there are parental locks he can put on your computer.

Unfortunately, your browser history is not the only place to find a persons browsing information.

Trust comes with maturity-

and if your not hiding anything then why would you worry if your dad sees your history. you should be thankful you have a dad who is looking out for you.

the kids out there who don't have a good dad or mom paying attention to little details such as computer history-

are the ones that are getting into big problems.

a girl that was abducted from someone she ment online (see was found alive)

now goes around giving her story to parents warning them to keep an eye on your childrens computer usage.

Sometimes when your young, even though you can be trusted 100% and may be the best kid on the planet,

you can make some bad choices without realizing you were doing the wrong thing which can lead you into trouble or a bad situation. having a good parent that is concerned is not always about mistrusting you but rather helping you make the right choices.

and if you go and listen to the loosers who answered your question on deleting your history-

then you are a very untrustful person and you are heading for trouble.

if you really want to be trusted then you don't go behind your dads back and delete your history. eventually he will find out and you will have proven your mistrust!

result-UNTRUSTFUL

just the facts

That depends, if you are doing something you shouldn't be doing on the internet, he deserves to look at the history. Otherwise, if you don't, tell him you need to trust him and he needs to trust you. Don't delete the history, then he'll think you're hiding something from him, and that will create an argument.
2007-07-19 09:10:45 UTC
Lol,

well #1 You shouldn't, you are a child and your Dad has every right to look at what you have seen on the internet.

#2 Even if you do, if he has any brains he can get past everything you try.
2007-07-19 09:10:16 UTC
You can start by paying for your own computer and house otherwise you have no right to complain. Be glad he cares and quit whining! Some kids wish they had a dad that was there for them like that!!!

I would do one of two things.

1) Use a browser other than Internet Explorer to surf the sites that you don't want him knowing about - download Mozilla Firefox or something, install it (if he hasn't disabled your ability to do this), and then delete the shortcuts from the start menu and desktop so you have to go into the folder and run it (rename the folder too, then for him to know it is installed, he would have to go into add/remove programs). If he does notice, and asks about it, just tell him one of your friends told you about it, but when you tried it you didn't like it - you can always put it back if he uninstalls it. Whenever you are done using it - simply clear its history, and remove it from the start menu if it pops up as a recent program.

This allows you to leave your IE history alone - use IE whenever he is watching, and since it keeps its own history - the sites you visit using Firefox won't show up, and since you don't have to clear IE's history, it won't look like you are trying to hide anything.

OR....

2) F**k with his head.

Anytime I ever suspect someone of spying on me, I will start doing things to subtly let them know that I know they are doing it.

For example: start by visiting a bunch of sites you wouldn't normally visit. Maybe start with some bi-curious sites (nothing naughty, just forums and stuff), and then start dropping hints that you are confused about your sexual orientation.

If he immediately starts complaining that it's the sites you have visited that are bringing this about, then call him on it - and let him know that you set him up. He will feel like an idiot (though he may take your computer away).

Simple answer, open menus, accessories, system, open disk clean up and choose all the boxes and click OK or apply. This removes all the temporary files that are not in the Web Browser. And no deleting from the Web Browser does not remove them from other locations. The only other issue is if there is a key logger on the computer running stealth or a stealth program that sends an email to your dads email account every time the computer goes onto the web. I always knew where my kids have been on the Internet and I'm not an IT, I am self trained in fixing and repairing computers. And yes, running a Linux LiveCD is an alternate route around this issue.

Trust should always be earned, not freely given. Do the right thing and your dad will have more reason to trust you.

Do you think you should let a stranger hold your wallet or take you for a drive? I bet you don't because you don't know if they are trustworthy. Prove to your Dad you can be trusted to follow what he thinks is right before you expect him to let you choose for yourself.

Now, for the technical issue, it's pretty easy to clear browser history, although your Dad will find out very quickly if he is monitoring you. In your browser, find Internet Options or preferences, then find the buttons to delete browsing history and clear cache. Do both and there will be no record. Of course, if your Dad finds out, he may install software to monitor you that you can't bypass so easily.

Sorry buddy. If he's good enough, there's really nothing you can do. Trust goes both ways, you know. The real problem is you have something to hide. Chances are, he's already in tune to this question on yahoo. Though I question how good he really is if you're able to view the sites - a good admin would find easy ways to block them altogether and/or track usage - this can be done at the router end in many cases.

nothing says "I'm going places I shouldn't" like a cleared cache.

What exactly are you trying to hide from him?

It might be interesting to see his browser history....
2007-07-19 09:24:41 UTC
Just deleting your browsing history won't work! If your dad's a programmer he will find it..! As I did with my fiance and his P**N!!! hahaaha!

There is a way to do it and I have come across it but can't remember where it was .. You'll need to spend a bit of time searching.. try searching "permanently delete history" or something similar..

You can"t. If your dad cares about you he will check up on you

If you want to be trusted then try to understand dads position

on this. You are his little girl.End of story. The world has gotten alot uglier with the technology we have today. Your father should be commended for caring, there 's alot of fathers who wouldn"t.I've raised 2 daughters they both have kids and they're just as "snoopy" as i was. They understand ole dad now.Be good to your dad he doesn't have the benefit of your inexperience.

I don't think there is a way that you can stop him. All you might be able to do is delete your history, but keep in mind that anything that is deleted can be restored.

Dads are just like that and yes they are very nosy, but for your own good.

Hang in there.

1.On Internet Explorer , Tools > Internet Options> "Days to keep pages in history" should be zero.

2. Every time you browse clear history before you logout.

3. Delete Internet temp files & delete cookies including offline files.

If there's nothing wrong in your browsing history, you shouldn't have to worry.

If you have IE, you can go to tools>>Internet options>>under the general tab, go to browsing history, hit delete>>then select "delete history".

Obviously you aren't doing things that he can trust if he has to keep checking. To answer your question though, you can try deleting it in internet options in your control panel, but there are still ways he can see what he wants to.

+you clear your private data if you are using firefox CTRL-Shift-Del or Tools>Clear Private data (at the end of your session)

+with IE there is something similar

but if he is good with computers there are others ways, BE WARNED

+also get a registry cleaner to clean your temporary internet files

+but still you cant truly protect yourself he can have a key logger recording what you press in the keyboard

I hope you aren't doing anything naughty and he doesnt invade your privacy too much, your dad is only trying to protect you but does seem like he is overprotecting (but I'm only twenty so I don't know)

**********READ THIS**********************************

here is what you do

1)you install portable apps one a usb data holder and you only browse from a portable firefox you keep that usb disk secret.

you buy it your self and no one should know about it you can even get one from the brand "inf" with a really good password protection of your data( any usb data holder will just do fine also like an ipod, or any other mp3 player should work

http://portableapps.com/ you use this to chat also its got gaim( like msn)

you should still clean out your private data at the end of each session

There is a way to stop him from looking. You have to go to the control panel, then network and internet connections. Then click internet options, and find the history box and set it to 0 days. If you have aymore questions just email me. bsmith31989@yahoo.com.

You can always delete your browsing history.

If you have Internet Explorer:

Tools>Internet Options>General (tab)>Browsing History>Delete...>Delete History...

If that doesn't work ask nicely. If he's rude about it, then ask rudely.

That's how I get the respect and trust that I deserve.
2007-07-19 09:11:03 UTC
Yup. Either don't go on sights that you're not allowed to be on. Or clear you're history-which, of course, is the best solution. Good luck!
