That error message means that your computer does not have a program installed that makes use of whatever filtype the attachment is. For example, if your husband sent you a zipped or archived file full of pictures you would need to have a program like winrar(.rar) or winzip(.zip) instaled. You can identify the filetype of a file by it's extension; ex: Start.wav has a .wav extension so it is a Wave Sound file, background.bmp has a .bmp extension so it is a bitmap file, golf.exe has a .exe extension so it is an executable file. If you don't know what type of program you need to open a file you can visit http://filext.com/ and type the file extension including the period( . ) into the search box on the upper lefthand corner of the website and click search; the website will then direct you to the appropriate program, including a link to download it if one exists.

according to filext.com:
"See Section 3.2 in RFC 2311. This is basically a secure E-mail file sent in encrypted form. If everything is set up properly your E-mail program should have downloaded a public key necessary to decrypt the file."
section 3.2 of the indicated document reads:
"The application/pkcs7-mime type is used to carry PKCS #7 objects of several types including envelopedData and signedData. The details of constructing these entities is described in subsequent sections. This section describes the general characteristics of the application/pkcs7-mime type.
This MIME type always carries a single PKCS #7 object. The PKCS #7 object must always be BER encoding of the ASN.1 syntax describing the object. The contentInfo field of the carried PKCS #7 object always contains a MIME entity that is prepared as described in section 3.1. The contentInfo field must never be empty.
Since PKCS #7 objects are binary data, in most cases base-64 transfer encoding is appropriate, in particular when used with SMTP transport. The transfer encoding used depends on the transport through which the object is to be sent, and is not a characteristic of the MIME type."
This basically means whatever program he used to send you the file encrypted it. In order to decrypt it you would need to download a decryption program. One such program can be downloaded by click this link: http://www.abylonsoft.de/download/apmReadD.exe
that is a download for the free version of abylon reader, which can read multiple encrypted file formats. This program is only for Windows.
I make no claims of safety or compatibility with this program. I have no experience with this program, it is simply the best option for you given my research. I cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss of data due to the use or misuse or anything else this file might do. DOWNLOAD AT YOU OWN RISK!
