I updated w/ Software Update yesterday -- new Leopard OSX update --and today my mouse is frozen! my track pad glides across the screen, but nothing reacts when I click it. When i plug in an external HP usb mouse, the same thing .. only it will open folders and things on my desktop, but not close them!! annoying!

what's the deal, is this related to the OSX update? hardware? I need computer right now for work!
im on Powerbook G4 and running the latest OSX leopard [which has been one bug after another I might add]

try restoring the computer to its original state

and also i have leopard myself and after you install a lot of stuff on it and put files on, it can become very laggy/slow

Hmm, Its kind of odd but I don't think it is SW related. Try doing a PRAM reset. Shutdown the computer. Once it is shutdown your going to press the power button to turn it back on. As soon as you turn it on immediately hold down Apple+Option+P+R until you hear 2 startup chimes. Once you hear that let go. Test the mouse.

Still not working?

Test in a new user. Go into system prefrences and then accounts. Create a new user and then go to the apple and choose log out. Log into the new user and test your mouse.

Still not working? You need to do an archive and install Preserving users and network settings. Check apple.com/support for an article on how to do that. It's tooo long to type haha. Good luck with that

you may extra advantageous be waiting to apply an older version of Protools and Garageband as modern variations won't run on your G4 no count what OS you're working. in case you do pass forward with this, MAX OUT YOUR RAM. 768MB is on the diminutive ingredient for working Leopard.
