I thought I already answered this. Guess not.

There are hundreds of different distributions of Linux. This question is best asked in that particular users forum. The answer is probably already there if you use the search button. by the 10.1 I'm going to guess you are trying to install Mandriva? If so, try this link. http://www.mandrivasuers.org

*Edit* To the guy below me, I'm not sure what partitioning software Mandriva uses as I haven't used it in quite some time, but most linux installs use something along the lines of qtparted or a similar partition manager that allows you to repartition your drives without the loss of data. And if you were wanting to run a dual boot system and are installing Windows and Linux at the same time my advice would be to install Windows first, not Linux. The reason being the Windows installation will overwrite the Linux boot manager forcing you to boot to a livecd and reinstall the boot loader. If Windows is already installed, the Linux Installer should automatically configure GRUB/LILO (whichever you use) to give you the option to boot to Windows.

Linux plays nice with Windows, Windows chooses to ignore the presence of Linux.

sure many human beings have computers that are configured as twin-boot abode windows and Linux. commonly that's finished by first installation abode windows on your problematical rigidity then installation Linux afterwards. in the course of the Linux installation you could repartition a problematical rigidity as needed between both platforms. also the Linux installation will installation a boot loader application that runs even as the computing device starts. This boot loader provide you with the alternative to choose which gadget will run for that initiate. that's authentic with each and every of the present up therefore far Linux distributions which includes unbuntu, suse, Fedora and mandrake.

You need one of two things; either a free partition on your current hard drive or a second hard drive.

If you have either of the cases above, simply put the Linux installation disk into your DVD/CD drive and install on the second hard drive or in the free partition.

If you have neither and do not want to buy a second hard drive, then you must buy software that will repartition your hard drive without lost, and then install Linux in the newly created partition.

Not considering either of the above solutions, you must reinstall your operating system, deleting the current partition and creating two partitions during the installation.

Install Linux in one partition. Install it first, then reinstall XP.

Be sure to install the motherboard drivers and utilities from the motherboard CD.

When completed, go to www.microsoft.com and let that site update your WINDOWS data.
