I’ve been trying for the past few days to install MS Office 2000 on my computer. I keep getting an error message saying: “error cab file not found.” Then, the installation fails. I’ve tried virus and antivirus scans, and I’ve defragged my computer. This problem still keeps coming up, so I would like to know what I’m missing. What am I not getting?

A “cab” or cabinet file is basically a packaged file in your installation disk or on the website you’re using that contains several files for installing. For some reason, your computer isn’t able to find a certain cab file, and so the installation fails. If I knew more about your situation, I could specifically tell you what’s going on. I’ll try to cover every situation.

If you’re installing from disk, your media might be dirty or damaged. To fix it, clean the disk and use a scratch remover on it. Then try to install it again. If your installation is from the web, delete your installation file, download another copy and try again. If it doesn’t work this time, your problem might be with your computer.

The other major possibility is that it’s a problem with your computer’s registry. Download the software here: http://optimize-your-pc.com/regcure/repairing_errors.php and install it. After you run it, your computer should run like new and this problem will be fixed. Best wishes!

First of all never mention any page as no one is going to read that, instead write in brief what u have already tried. Now u have not mention whether u are installing from cd or hard disk. I presume u are installing from cd. My suggestion is copy all files from cd to pen drive from friend's computer and pendrive to your hard disk, then install from hard disk. because most probably ur drive is not able to read from that particular point where the file dwtrig20.exe is present. If u get the same message then open the folder Office.en-us and see if the application dwtrig20.exe is there or not, in both cases copy this file from someone else cd and replace.
