So my computer has been freezing up its a laptop, vista. anyways, i have to keep pushing the button, and hold it to turn it off after it freezes, well one time, the computer made a loud beeping noise. Then when i pressed the button, and restarted, it loaded my files, then went to a blue screen and did a system restore or something. Well it was find after that, except one time it froze. But tonight, i was downloading the 2010 Microsoft Office trial, after the download, it froze up. But the freezing up was a little different, i could still use the mouse, but the internet was freezing and etc. So i pressed the button, and once again, the blue screen. so then afterward it wouldnt let me install the trial, so i deleted the download, but it seemed like t was freezing again when i went to install it and then it said the installation failed. I went to the task manager and logged out, and here i am whats wrong with this computer? im up to date with security scans, i have McAfee, and said nothing was wrong.

If your system does not start correctly or the stop message happens again, reboot the system. When the POST (memory checking) screen comes up, press F8 repeatedly. This will bring you to the Windows advanced options menu.

In the Windows advanced options menu choose 'safe mode' to attempt to boot into Windows Safe mode. Safe mode loads Windowsvista with a minimal set of drivers and no automatically loaded software. If faulty software or drivers are causing you to get a blue crash screen or as it is known the BSOD problem, then safe mode should load correctly. If safe mode loads correctly, refer to Section A below on 'troubleshooting software stop messages.'

If safe mode does not load correctly, and/or you get the same stop message upon attempting safe mode, it's time to try the 'restore last known good configuration' option in the advanced options menu.

Restart your computer, pressing 'F8' again to load the advanced options menu and select 'last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked).' This uses vistas built in system restore utility to restore the most recent save point, which should be the last time you installed any drivers or other software. If your system boots normally after this operation, hopefully your problem has been fixed.

If you are still receiving a Blue Screen Of Death after the above procedures, or if system restore was disabled on your system, note down any new information on the error and start thinking. Did you install any new hardware or software just before this problem occurred?

If you did install new hardware or software, and you think you know what it might be that is causing the problem, this gives you a big boost in resolving the situation.

Specific Repair Instructions

If you have a reoccurring crashing problem, and can't use Windows effectively because of it, it's time to look at more specific methods of troubleshooting your problem. Depending on the results of the basic troubleshooting steps above, you should have a good idea of whether the problem that is causing the stop messages is related to software or drivers you have installed, or is a hardware or system file issue.

you may want to try another antivirus program with higher detection rate, such as avira free edition, just to be absolutely sure, as it sounds like a virus

if there are no instances, its a corrupt system file

vista is notorious for that

the easiest thing to fix that would be run windows update, and update your computer

if you have already downloaded all updates and service packs available to date, try a clean reboot

hopefully its not a system file, and its a 3rd party application

to check this:

click start

type "msconfig" in the search bar

right click and click "run as administrator"

there you will see "startup selection"

click selective startup and uncheck "load startup items"

next, in the services tab, check "hide all microsoft services"

then click "disable all"

now click "ok" but before restarting click on START then type CMD and right click to run as administrator

open 2 of these windows

in the first cmd window, type "sfc/scannow"

in the next window type "chkdsk c: /f /r"

then type "Y"

this will check and repair errors found

see if you have the same symptoms, if not, check each service and startup program one by one to see what is causing the problems

if you are having symptoms, contact me at jake_jake36@yahoo.com and i will give you more instructions

1 hard drive full or close to full has no space for temp files or viteral memory

2 hard drive dying
