my windows xp sp2 "Genuine" with running it, have i made any mistake in applying it ? what's the actual process?,in steps, please?
My question posted tomorrow was:
"Is there any source or link from where i can download the Patch of "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation" of windows xp sp2 free?
I am tired and frustrated of "validation failure" message!
I can't install internet explorer 7,direct x SDK,security updates and windows media player11 for validation failure,
I can't even think of ordering for windows xp sp2 CD from microsoft or Genuine Advantage Kit from MS with 150-200 US$ payment,my monthly income is just 100 US$,as i am from a poor developing country, software buying with those huge amout is not possible here."

lol, you mean yesterday as "tomorrow"? Are you sure you are using genuine XP and not pirated ones? I don't seem to understand your QN. do you mean to DL SP2 as a standalone?

The purpose of the genuine advantage compnent (rather cheekily marketed as though it is an advantage for you rather than Microsoft) is to check that your software keys are valid and match your registered hardware profile from product activation.

It fails in quite a lot of cases.

If you have a genuine product, call Microsoft with the keys to hand and they will sosrt it out.

If you do not have genuine software keys it will continue to fail, and successive WGA patches will make this failure more robust, not less.

The 'windows genuine advantage' patch is a revenue protection mechanism for Microsoft. It means that people running illegal software will *not* be able to get patches for it from Microsoft.

It is of no benefit to you at all.

I suggest that you either revert your machine to an older XP (one that you have a key (an illegal key?) for) and don't *ever* download the WGA patch... or buy their software which costs such a lot of your money and contributes such a little to Microsoft's profit or stop using Microsoft software.

If you are computer literate then I suggest you have a look at Linux. I'm using Ubuntu... it's free to download, needs no license, remains free to patch as needed and contains as standard a perfectly useable office suite, a browser (firefox), a mail engine (Evolution), AOL/MSN compatible chat software etc etc.

There is a learning curve... it's not the same to use as Windows and Windows software, it needs some knowledge to add and maintain applications, it won't use some peripherals devices (for instance it's very difficult to get built-in modems to work, a number of printers or multi-function devices won't work - eg lexmark multifunction printer/scanner/copiers don't have 'drivers' for Linux).

BUT there is a big community of fellow users who are working at getting their odd peripherals to work, produce lots of documentation on how to do things and are often helpful.
