have you ever run a 64-bit windows os?

How did you get on with software compatibility?
Would you recommend a 64 bit Windows OS to others?

- very interested to hear from people who have run one. If you havent, please dont respond. Thankyou.

I run XP64, Vista Business 64 and XP32, most software I use works but sometime you do hit unseen problems, DVB PCI-e cards doesnt like 64bits much due to the way it address the memory, most 16bit software wont run, but overall, XP64 is great when you have tons of memory, on our ones they all have 8GB so plenty to go round.

My main station runs XP32 purely because compatability as a lot of inhouse software are written in 16bit, when Photoshop CS4 are released for 64bit, i think many more will follow so 64bit is the way to go, right now its like Cinderella, all dressed up but nowhere to go.

I am using a 64-bit OS and it seems like app compatibility is pretty good. I try to use 64-bit as much as possible but the 32-bit stuff I use seems to run just fine.

Both Vista Ultimate 64 bit and Linux 64 bit on this computer. No problems with old legacy software (even some of my old Windows 98 stuff).

for me the best 64Bit OS is vista ultimate 64

My mates running 64-bit Vista so he cna use his full 4GB of RAM, and doesnt seem to have any issues, in fact im thinking of upgrading to it myself n gettign soem more RAM.

64-bit has had tiem to mature so he hasnt had any driver problmes, though most of his stuff is branded stuff from top companies, so i suppose getting bits form crap companies might not work.

all his 32-bit stuff works and it tunred out Crysis comes in 64-bit on the normal disc too, so he was happy about that.

I tried the windows XP 64bit version trial yonks ago and was quietly amused that 64bit linux had better win32 compatibility through wine and 32-bit libraries than windows itself did ;)



It's much better now though.

unless you need to use more than 3 gigs of ram there's no benefit to going 64 bit.
