Question:
Upgrading slow computer to faster one?
2009-12-08 15:53:17 UTC
I want to upgrade my computer so it runs faster. Youtube videos are slow as well as internet explorer. I can't have too many programs open as they freeze and get stuck.
This are my computer's details:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00Ghz
3,00Ghz, 960Mb of RAM
120GB memory space
I have good internet connection for the videos as in other computers it runs smoothly. I just want my computer to perform more commands and faster as well as improve speed for videos and music. Please give me some advice on good RAM size as well as new processors like Pentium 4.

Thank you,
Charlie

you'd better find what problems are that cause computer slow down. and then solve them to speed up computer.

I recommend the following ways to you:

1.run a antivirus software to scan your computer fully.

virus usually impacts the speed of computer.

If there is no virus, see the possible reasons that make computers slow down and solutions.

2.Registry is the centre database of your computer operating system which contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is too fat or with some errors, computer's performance will seriously be impacted. So, you need to clean up registry and fix its errors.

If you are not familiar with registry, don't remove files away from it and clean up it easily for you may delete important things that will make your computer in trouble. You'd better choose to use a professional registry cleaner, personally,I like wondershare registry optimizer,it's safe to operating system.

3.There must be too many programs start up automatically when you start your computer.Run a registry optimizer or cleaner to stop those unnecessary start-up programs.

4.Have you ever clean up your computer since you bought it? If the answer is never, I am sure that there are lots of junk files on it. Junk files is also one of reasons that will cause computer slowing down. You'd better delete them regularly.

2,3,4 can be realized by a registry optimizer.

5.If a registry optimizer doesn't work, add RAM or do a fresh reinstall of windows. Before you do a reinstall, please remember to back up.However, you should know that frequent reinstall is harm to hard disk.

6.Put programs on other drivers ,not C driver, because commonly C is for operating system. And defrag hard disks every 2 months.

7. if all above methods are useless, I agree with others that you should save the money to buy a new PC.

Good luck.

Can I have your computer when you get rid of it because it is waaaay bigger than mine and I don't have any of those problems. I have an old Dell with 60 GBhard drive and 512 MB of RAM and a pentium 4 processor and I download, watch and burn movies and tv episodes and stuff from youtube all the time. No problems.

the fact is, a;ll you may need to do is clean it up.

Do you do disc clean up regularly?

Do you defrag regularly?

Do you dump unused programs and software that you do not use any more?

Do you have at least 2-3 good anti adware and spyware programs that run regularly to clean up that kind of junk?

Clean that baby and then see if you still have problems.

That computer shouldn't run slow all. You could probably make it run twice as fast without adding any extra parts just by setting up the operating system right. Unless your running Windows Vista. Then add a gig or two of ram to it, and a DirectX 10 compatible video card. Then it should fly at least for a couple months.

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.

well most of all its time for the Dual Core upgrade, Single core do a very poor job at multi-tasking, for obvious reasons, multi-programs run better on multi-processors, also youtube has started a big HD and HQ video player, so this means you'll need a Graphic card or Main card that can stream HD that may be one reason for ur slow video watching, um anywhere from 1gb-2gb or ram will be quite good for XP, and 2gb for vista or windows 7,

This may be harse advice but and new computer all together will be the best option, Newegg.com always has some very nice laptops and desktops, for less then 500 that can do all that u need it to do and some more

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Youtube and internet explorer being slow would have to do with you ISP (internet service provider), you probably have Dial up or dsl and would do good upgrading to high speed or Fios if its available in your area, as for running more programs or making it faster, upgrade your RAM (Google it).
