I've got a laptop that was bought in the US two months ago. I've got Hebrew set as a language and can type properly in Hebrew, but when I download a .srt file with Hebrew characters, Windows Media Player shows it as Gibberish and not as Hebrew. Any idea how I can change the settings?

The first step is to get a proper media player.

VLC Media Player and Media Player Classic are both good options with the former being more user-friendly.

You can get MPC here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358 (just click on the mpc2kxp6490.zip -link to download)

Open the file and place the mplayerc.exe to (for example) c:\mpc no installation is necessary, it's a standalone program.

Now drag your video file on the mplayerc.exe to open it, choose File > Load subtitle and your subtitles should display correctly.

If not, make sure that you have mpc set up using a font that supports hebrew characters (View > Options > Subtitles > Default Style > Font)

Go to control panel , Regional and language options , and in Advanced Tab , select hebrew in Language for non-unicode programs.

It's solve the problem.
