How do you make it so you cant see the file extensions? Example from "song.mp3" to just "song"

I was on someone else's laptop today and none of their file extensions showed. It was just the name and the icon.
example instead of Song.mp3 you just see Song...

Assuming that you are referring to Windows and not a Mac, bring up the Windows folder that the files are in, then click on Tools > Folder Options. Next click the View tab. Scroll down and find the option for 'Hide extensions for known file types.' This needs to be checked.
If that does not take care of it, you will need to go to the File Type tab and add mp3 as a file type and attach the program to use on it in there.

In the file browser window.
Go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab
Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types"

In Windows Explorer (meaning double click "My Computer"
Select Tools > Folder Options > View tab > check the box for "Hide extensions for known file types"
Fair warning, that is one way people can spread viruses. I could send you for example "hotpic.jpg.exe" with a standard image icon, and you'd just see "hotpic.jpg"
If you're not paying attention, you double click on it to see the pic... Bad idea IMHO.
