Question:
How can I stop/fix this error faster?
2010-01-17 11:50:06 UTC
Sometimes, usually after I download something or play a game for a while, my computer just shuts down. When I try to turn it on, it takes me to a blue screen with a bunch of stuff, saying something like "Windows encountered an error and is shutting down to prevent damage to your computer". Then it runs Startup Repair, which takes about 20 minutes scanning to do absolutely NOTHING. I then have to System Restore. This whole process takes about 35 minutes to an hour. How can I stop it from happening again or fix it faster?

The easiest and fastest way to solve this problem is to run a registry cleaner software. A registry cleaner can eliminate errors in your record. This record stores all information about the software, drivers, applications and games that are installed on your computer. And in time, it can get bad, because some obsolete entries are not deleted and can lead to what they call the "errors". By using a registry cleaner http://make-a-computer-run-better.com the errors can be eradicated and increases the speed of your computer in the process. Registry cleaners work by scanning each file and then checking to see if it's corrupt or causing problems. If they find that it is broken, the registry cleaner will replace or fix the file for you to make your computer become free of errors. In addition, the errors will not happen if you regularly check and care for your computer system.

It MIGHT be due to overheating...

Open the computer up, see if it's dusty, make sure all the fans are working...

download http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ to see the temperature, load, and other info of your cpu

Download http://majorgeeks.com/Prime95_d4363.html and run a test, while looking at cpu temperatures to make sure your cpu isn't over heating...

run it for about 2-10 minutes, or at least until your cpu is at it's highest temp...

if your computer shuts down while running this stress test you have a problem with your cpu, probably overheating.

If you don't see anything wrong while running the stress test download

http://www.ozone3d.net/gpu_caps_viewer/

and run the fur rendering test which should put some load on your gpu.

if your computer shuts off here then it's a problem with your graphics card/integrated graphics controller.

actually, run the tests for the amount your use the computer until it shuts down...

or from when you start a game to the time it shuts down.

Another possibility: (hardly doubt this is it) Your power supply unit may need to be replaced.

There's a stop code on that blue screen (it looks like 0x000000yy - you need the yy part). Go to http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm to see what the code you got means, and what to do about it. (It does sound as if your computer is clogged with dust, though.)
