Hiya,

I am praying for help:

Yesterday, for the 1st time , I used a spyware called : " E-Wido anti spy software "..................I did not download it.

Immediately afterwards , I tried to access the net via Internet Explorer and the following message appeared :

" Windows cannot find i explore.exe............This programme is needed for opening files of type URL : Hypertext Transfer Protocol "

Below that is a liitle box that says :

Location of i.explore.exe

C:/

I went into " Programmes"...............found Internet Explorer , and clicked on " Properties" :

" C/Program files/Internet Explorer/DW15.EXE. (Backward slashes )

I typed that into the box ( except mine are forward slashes, not backwards.........I can't seem to find backward slashes on my machine ".................and the following message came up :

I am desperate.......all my work comes in via e mail.

Many thanks

Dave

Cannot find C/Program files/Internet Explorer/DW15.EXE.

Sounds like a virus, Get a friend to download AVG anti virus and then burn it to a disk, And install it on your computer and run the virus scam. Or if all else fails try doing a system restore back to the day before you had any problems. You can probally recieve your e-mails via the internet from a different computer (Internet cafe).

Get a USB drive and do this;

1) Buy an AV disk, get hold of Norton AV 2007. There is a bootup disk facility (you can override the common harddrive boot and run the PC from your CDROM.) Then select the option to scan the entire system. Give it a good old once over with the AV I think it also has some anti spyware facility

2) Download onto the USB disk from the link below. Lavasoft Adaware. This is the worlds No.1 Spyware destroying software and if there is spyware it is highly likely to obliterate it.

3) The other llink. Download Zone Alarm firewall. This is also free and highly aggressive. This will cover your *** from more sneaky trojan attacks

If that doesnt work then it is possible the virus has destroyed your I.E BUT dont panic. Do all of the above then do this. And remember do this AFTER the above.

Grab a copy of your Windows, and do a reinstall. Then it will reinstall everything which you need because its highly likely other files are corrupted/infected.

I know its annoying to reinstall everything but it will sort it out for you. If you dont know how to do it, go to a computer shop and ask the technician to do what you have told him. It shouldnt take longer than an hour to do the whole thing on a modern PC. Also keep in mind, the internet world of today is a dangerous place for your PC. Always ensure you have 3 protections, AV, Anti spyware and a firewall!

Good Luck

LOL One malformed shortcut and you're all panicing. "Ahhh! Could be a virus..."

Ewido is a very good anti-spyware product recently bought up by AVG.

Right click you Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Change whatever is in Target to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" copy that including the quotation marks paste into the Target field (delete whatever is in there first) - fixed. Your Internet access has not changed at all, you simply couldn't start your web browser to surf the web.

Calm down. If you don't have a virus scanner download AVG. After installation run a scan just to be on the safe side.

Try clicking start, then run, then typing explorer.exe

If there is no start button then do control + alt + delete, then go to file, then click "New application" and then type explorer.exe

It should allow you to gain access. If not, then from my experience (which is probably the same as yours!) you will have to reinstall the Operating System and everything! It sucks but at times it must be done. Just make sure you save everything of yours.

If it does something but doesn't allow you internet still, make sure all your connections are right.

The backward slash, I believe, is above the right shift key.

Next time install firefox and run that instead of internet explorer...trust me!

Internet Explore's main program is:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"

Open Windows Explorer and expand My Computer, then Expand C:

Expand Program Files,

go to the Explorer folder, right click on

iexplorer.exe and send to desk top create a short cut.

You need to do a virus and spyware scan.

The actual location of internet explorer not the shortcut should be:

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieexplore

Just double click the ieexplore icon in the folder.

press and then type: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieexplore or cut and copy this into the box. This will open Internet explorer for you.
