Why does explorer.exe crash when I open my downloads folder? How do I fix this?

Recently (over the past week), opening my downloads folder has started to cause explorer.exe to crash... every time. I click the folder, it opens, the contents display for maybe a second before disappearing, then an error message shows up that tells me windows is going to close it. I haven't downloaded anything new and I'm meticulous about keeping my computer organized and spyware free. The only new addition to my computer is the stumbleupon.com toolbar for internet explorer which my girl downloaded. I never download toolbars and I almost made her get rid of it but I figured it probably wasn't harmful. Also, this issue only happens when I open the folder directly by going to My Documents > Downloads. To circumvent the issue I've been opening notepad and clicking file > open > my documents > downloads, then right clicking whatever I want to use. Viewing the folder in that manner does not cause a crash.

Try turning off thumbnail previews. If a file has a corrupted header, it will cause explorer to fail to properly generate its thumbnail and subsequently crash.

You may need to repair your Window Operating System. Get hold of the CD and do a repair. Go to Window Console Mode, usually select 1 to activate your C: drive

Type Chkdsk /r

Wait till it ends.... take quite a while. Reboot when complete.

Hope this helps.

Get rid of the toolbar, if it doesn't help, check if there are any video files in the folder; if yes, move them into a subfolder.

Gambhir is lower back in type as he purely scored a century in important different and babies circuit so it can a superior theory to call in lower back for the 4th attempt and replace him, even with the indisputable fact that Rahane or Tiwary could be a superior determination too.
