I'm trying to send a large file from my computer to my friends. I don't want to upload it to megaupload oranything. and I want it to be free. Just something that i can download that will allow me to send big files to his e-mail, or any other meathod.

Also, most common e-mails allow attachments from 10-25 Megs. I don't see your problem with services like MegaUpload because they are free to use. If the speed to upload is an issue then might I suggest Mediafire - differs from Megaupload because it advertises themselves as a file server instead of a temp file transfer depot.

Mediafire is free to use, unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth and max upload/download speed with 0 wait times to download. I have several hundred Gigs saved with them and I have never paid a cent. I download at 2M/s and upload at 1M/s (25M cable service).

Also if you two chat via IM through one of the popular chatting softwares from, Yahoo, MSN, Gmail (GTalk), or AOL (AIM). There is a file transfer option there as well.

How big is the file? Most e-mail services will cap at 10mb, or 20mb if you've got gmail. That's why it would be easier uploading it to a free service like mediafire, 4shared, or megaupload (but I get that you don't want to do that). I guess if you have the time, you can send it through an instant messenger, like aim, where you connect and then "request to send file." It would be tedious, but you wouldn't actually have to download anything (unless you don't have an instant messenger program). Hope that helps.

The most ideal way is to set both up on a wireless network and share files (click and drag to shared folders). Of course, you'll need to lug one of the computers to the other in the wireless range.....that is most ideal. The second is to burn DVD's. DVD's can hold at least 4.7 gig of information. Zip your files and you can almost double the amount of information.

compress it to a .rar file using WinRar

send it to them

then they use WinRar to extract the files from the compressed .rar files at their end of things

its how people upload massive files to 'downloading' websites so people can download them faster then open them

Try compressing the files with WinZip first.

Here is the link for the download:
