Not sure which file you are talking about... If it's a system file, you shouldn't delete it. If it's a non-critical file and you are sure you can delete it: Reboot your computer, hit F8 and choose "Boot in Safe Mode". Click on the Administrator account. Locate the file and you should be able to delete it from there.

open task manager and kill the processes that might be associated with the file you are trying to delete...for example if you are tring to delete a music file, kill the process(es) for whatever program you have that plays or is associated with music. You probably have programs loading at start-up that you don't even realize are doing so and some of them maintain libraries or links to files...thus the "being used by" message.

You could also just start in safe mode and delete the file there, as only necessary windows services will be running.

Once I had this problem, and it was a virus. I was able to delete the folder by trying to cut (not copy) the files away. Once all the files were scattered the virus killed itself and I was able to delete the folder.

If none of these answers work I would recommend a reinstall.

Use F8 to boot to a command prompt. You should be able to delete just about any file or folder (other than the one you're currently in or any parent of that one) from there. Even files that will cause Windows to not load if you delete them.

If that still doesn't work - and you're sure the file or folder isn't needed by Windows, download and burn a Linux Live CD image. Boot from the CD. Delete the file from there. (Linus will let you delete your whole Windows installation - it doesn't care about Windows.)

Go into Computer Management, open Shared Folders and look in Open Files to see if anything is using it.

What are you trying to delete?

Did that errors message point out that it became into in use by way of yet another. in case you purely seen it then your action picture software remains energetic in activity supervisor whether it somewhat is not any longer showing you are able to purely sign off homestead windows and then log returned on which will sparkling each thing this is energetic then you definately could be waiting to delete that record.

Friend,

Try this one. Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Go to processes. see which program takes up more of your memory. end the process. then try deleting the file. Hope this works

Press ctrl-alt-delete and in processes, look for programs that you think is using that folder. Then right click it. And click end process. Then try to delete the folder again. If you are able to delete it then your computer is infected with that virus. Scan it with anti virus.

Mostly it wont be a virus could be a error. try disk check and if that doesn't work try deleting the file using a file remover like hijack this or file assasin and let me know
